“Stop and Smell the Rosé!”

Summer Lovin’,  happy at last. Someone tell the weather.

Wow. I have so much to share with you, I am not going to blather on for long here.

Not one, but two Limited Releases to get excited about. For May, from our friends at Vineco, we have a 4 week rose called Reverie Rose.

Soft red fruits-think strawberries and raspberries. The exciting aspect of this is we control and therefore, you control, how sweet this rose is for you. It happens at bottling and you can decide just what the level of sweetness will be. Available to order now, $165.00/ batch.

The second is available in June and it is a Winexpert Private Reserve called Alias. This wine is a Spanish Monastrell, aka Mouvedre in France and Mataro in Australia. Same grape with flavour galore. This dry, full bodied red is chock o’ block with dark fruit, chocolate and oaky aromas along with soft strawberry and nutty notes with just a hint of spice, $229.00/ batch.

Coming this summer….a little bird not nesting in my cedars, has whispered that we will be able to offer 2 varietals of wine that will finish at 7% ABV. Less calories, less alcohol. Light summer drinking. I will keep you posted.

Red and Whites, April Wine Specials! 🇨🇦🥂

White and Red White being poured in wine glasses beside each other. Near the foot of the glasses are associate white and red grapes.

Hands up if you are ready for spring!!

After that small taste of Mother Nature’s wrath this week, we are moving on to more seasonal, up and down temperatures that we have come to know fondly as April. Too hot one day, haul out the long johns the next. That is why I keep a supply of white and red wine on hand for all the possibilities.

Speaking of red and white, even our wines are patriotic. I delayed the email until the tariff announcement came. Still looks like we are okay for a little while yet. But of course, you have choices to make when you want to speak with your dollars.

We will be closed on Good Friday April 18 and Saturday April 19th. I could use a long weekend. Make sure you get in that week early to bottle your wine.

The last of the special editions arrive this week, the RQ25 Tempranillo Grenache Cabernet ,and the Australian Fourtitude,  a big bold blend from down under sure to pack a punch in your glass.

We are welcoming the Snowbirds back after a “traditional winter”. You didn’t miss much except the snow, ice and sleet etc.

Onwards and upwards.

Cheers to Canadian Craft: Your “Eh! List”

A close-up of a woman's hand holding a wine glass filled with red wine. The background is blurred, suggesting an outdoor setting. White text in the upper left corner reads: 'Support local, save money and shop proudly Canadian-made craft winemaking kits.' A small red maple leaf icon is placed below the text.

Spring is just around the corner!

Look at me being optimistic. With the world in it’s current state, we all need to hang on to something.  I am sure once the snow is gone, my Snowdrops (flowers for you non-gardeners) are blooming.

Here is the good news! Both of the companies that we here at Main West deal with are Canadian companies. One is in St. Catherines, owned by Andrew Peller, the other, is owned by Arterra Wines with production in Kitchener.

Of course, the juice is sourced from around the world, but the kits are made here. We are still waiting to see how the current tariff situation will affect us as far as the juice from the U.S.A is concerned. Primarily, it is California. There will be many Canadian products that are made or assembled here that contain raw materials sourced from elsewhere.  At this time, i would hope that you all are considering looking for Canadian made products.

This list is what I lovingly refer to as the “Eh! List” of wines that are sourced from Canada

  • BC Pinot Noir
  • BC Meritage
  • Ontario Sauvignon Blanc
  • Ontario Pinot Grigio

And now the not so good news. The Winexpert Classic Italian Pinot Grigio that has been a mainstay here for many years will be transitioning to a Pinot Gris from California. Due to the tightening of Italian wine regulations and the prices on a steep trajectory. this change is necessary to maintain high product reliability, supply and sustainable pricing. Feel free to call if you have questions. I will do my very best to answer.

Here are the sales for March, make sure you start you spring and summer sippers swoon.
